Following the 2012 release of a Crucible Moment: College Learning and Democracy's Future, the listed organizations began working together as a “Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Action Network” to advance the Crucible call to make civic learning part of each student's college preparation. The Democracy Commitment, which served two-year institutions, was part of the original network but has since merged with Campus Compact.

These organizations now are partners in the Civic Learning and Democracy Engagement Coalition (CLDE) headed by the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U), College Promise, Campus Compact, Complete College America (CCA) and State Higher Education Executive Officers (SHEEO). CLDE celebrates their work which is critical to the success of our shared commitment effort to make college civic learning inclusive, high quality, and equity-committed.
